A Duncan Andrews Thriller

Private detective Duncan Andrews’s best friend Gina is a witch. His dog is a zombie. And his dead boyfriend, Robbie, is a ghost. So it’s hardly any wonder that he uses his connection to the supernatural to help him solve cases. Good thing, too, because Duncan has his hands full. Janice Sanderson, the richest woman in Indianapolis, wants him to find her stripper daughter, Brenda, and another client is having some trouble with a specter haunting her family home. On top of that, Duncan has decided to add dating into the mix, though after Robbie’s death, he’s not sure he’s ready.

When Duncan meets Nick while tracking down a lead on Brenda’s boyfriend, he shelves his doubts and agrees to a date. Robbie doesn’t make it easy on him, showing up to spoil his chances, but that is the least of Duncan’s worries—because one of his clients’ husbands is missing and there’s a serial killer on the loose—one Duncan fears isn’t human.

This was a cute story about a private eye with a ghost for a boyfriend, a witch for a best friend, and a zombie dog. This cast of characters was also repeated by the first person narrator about once a chapter in a "gee aren't we fun" sort of way. Otherwise the snarky jokes Duncan makes are pretty funny.

I liked the story, although it was different from regular cozies in that all the story lines didn't resolve into one over-arching plot by the end. Not a bad thing, but unexpected.

The suspension of disbelief factor for a paranormal wasn't too high, but the story echoed Harry Dresden enough to be distracting (wise-cracking private eye, feisty witch sidekick, helpful ghost, supernatural dog).

Overall, I did like the story and when the sequel comes out on Amazon, I'll be getting it.

This!

I was just saying last weekend that I wished I could find urban fantasy within the m/m genre. It seems that most of the paranormal books out there are filled with so much sex that they lose the story and wouldn't it be great to read a story along the lines of Patricia Briggs or Ilona Andrews but have the main characters be gay? I've searched so long for something like that but, with the exception of Rhys Ford's Black Dog Blues and Cari Z's book that she wrote for me, Ten Simple Tips for Surviving the Apocalypse, I've found virtually nothing.

But then! Then my dearest Jet steered me towards this book and my wait was over! This is exactly what I've been searching for!

This book was exciting! The last 20% had me on the edge of my seat and I was riddled with anxiety over what would happen next. Duncan is an amazing character. What a wonderful person he is! So full of life and love. The story is so well written I felt as though I was there with them all. All of the characters were fully fleshed (heh) and relatable, even the villain. The world building was above par. The humorangst ratio was perfect. I can't wait to read the second book!

So, my only question is why haven't I read these sooner? How come this is the first time I've heard of Stephen Osborne? This book has been out for a while. How come more people haven't read this?

Because this is worth reading, folks. Take my word for it. Pick up this book. Get lost in the story.

You won't be sorry you did.
Once in a while, I come across books that none of my friends have read. And some of those books make me want to read them for no apparent reason. This was one such book. I have no idea what drew me in to this book, but boy, I'm really glad I decided to read this. I enjoyed this book so much! I loved Stephen Osborne's writing style in this book-

I have to admit this book is by no means perfect. But I have to appreciate Stephen Osborne's writing style. Something about his writing made me overlook all the flaws and enjoy this book so much! This book is a pretty light, fun read.

Duncan Andrews is a Private Detective. What is unusual is that, he has a zombie dog as his pet, his best friend happens to be a witch and a mysterious woman at that, and his boyfriend of more than a decade is a ghost. The world this story is set in contains a variety of supernaturals- zombie(okay, only one so far but still...), witch, ghosts, ghouls, werewolves, vampires, and so on.

The plot had the potential to go wrong so many times- two different plot lines with no connection between them. Something that could have had an equal potential for disaster could have been the whole ghost boyfriend and the mechanics of the relationship between them, and the introduction of Nick. I don't doubt that for some people this would have indeed been wrong. But for me personally, because of the way it was written, all these became a positive point for the book. To me, Stephen Osborne has thrown in a mix of just the right amount of everything to make it enjoyable and not become too much.

I loved this book so much! You have to be in the right mindset to enjoy this. I was, and I certainly loved this book to no end. I'm definitely going to read Animal Instinct pretty soon!
Not the usally type book I read. But I found it to be intriguing. The story and Charters where very interesting. I had a hard time puting it down.
I really enjoyed this book. It is filled with a unique cast of characters that covers close to every kind of spook out there. The story plot keeps it interesting and it also filled with an entertaining sense of humor.
Ok book, not sure I will read 2nd or not.can deal with ghost idea and like it but have to see some way for them to be together it with others.
Very interesting read and I'm looking forward to the next in the series. Made me laugh several times and was just overall a fun book.
When I first read the description section I thought "no way". It just didn't sound like something I would read but I went ahead and read it anyway and enjoyed it more than I expected. It's fun and quirky enough to make me laugh. Worth the cost .
